Foxley Estate: An organically and sustainably farmed vineyard
Following our retirements from the U.S. Navy and U.S. Foreign Service, we embraced a new mission: turning a cattle ranch into a thriving organic vineyard. In June 2018 we planted our first vines, and we now organically and sustainably farm 16 acres of wine grapes.
Our Washington vineyard descends down the hillside toward the Columbia River Gorge, with breathtaking views of the river. Mt. Hood anchors the southern sky, reflecting in the river on less windy days. We, like the generations of Native Americans who hunted and fished here for many centuries, stand in awe of this mighty river and the majestic mountain.
Located in the heart of the nation’s second National Scenic Area, our land is fed by the waters of Mt. Adams. Our farm and the surrounding hills feature basalt flows, stunning synclines, wildflower meadows, towering Ponderosa Pines, and delightfully craggy Oregon White Oaks.
As custodians of this beautiful place, we are committed to sustainable farming and environmental stewardship of the land. We carefully consider the impact of each viticultural decision on the ecosystem, with an eye toward improving soil health and nuturing the habitat for beneficial insects and animals.
We named our farm Foxley Estate after the ancestral home of the Fowler family in Buckinghamshire, England.
